Decay-Testing, Biology, Bio-Mechanics Workshop

Last Saturday, May 6, Heritage Tree Care Inc. enjoyed attending this excellent workshop organized by ArborCanada.

Thank you, Frank Rinn for discussing tree biology and biomechanics and how breaking forces act on trees in various states of decay. Also, thank you for demonstrating the most advanced technology and basic methods available for decay assessment.

The main contents of the workshop included the following:

  • Wood anatomy and tree-biomechanics.

  • Why VTA rules are not appropriate/applicable.

  • Why SIA is fundamentally wrong.

  • Allometric Self-Referencing and ArboStApp™.

  • Diagnostic techniques: sounding (stem & roots), drilling, pulling tests, GPR, . . .

  • Practical applicable to mature trees.

  • Wind load, pruning, crown cabling.

  • Efficient and legally compliant reporting.

If you want to know more about it check it here

 The Tree Still Sings

Heritage Tree Care Inc. together with Just be Woodsy presents:

 The Tree Still Sings

As generations turn and weather patterns intensify, many mature trees are lost in our city. Most of the time, these giant beauties end their lives in the landfill. But not always.

When possible, a dedicated team of arborists and wood specialists collaborate to extract this invaluable urban resource and give it a new life in various forms.

Together Heritage Tree Care and Just Be Woodsy are the specialists behind the scenes.

The process is a full cycle.

For every tree that is cut, one is planted.

Biggest Job Ever

Thanks to all the amazing professionals that helped push through this mega Oak removal through using a gargantuan 125-ton crane from the mavericks jtcrane.ca thanks Alfredo and Alex... your necks must ache!

My team pulled out the stops and worked as an amazing unit..massive respect and appreciation to @johnpkennelly @shmorgojames @jahrellf Luke JJ Henry and an extra shout to @athrun_n7 who did the lions share.

And to @chrissarginson who after a full day of work took my call and showed up at 8 pm to crush the rest of it with the final cut at 12 am!!!... I look forward to a bright future collaboration.

Also to our old Pal Alex @justbewoodsy for collaborating on the wood extraction and short film in the making... sorry we couldn’t produce all your dream bits.

Also to the Amazing Film crew @raercreatives who did a terrific job of capturing the experience for our upcoming short film "from Toronto tree to table" can't wait to see the footage!! Especially the master drone pilot @apm.ca who blew our minds with aerial acrobatics.

Also to the cops and hydro people-thanks pulling a late one!!
And to the clients, Erin and Brian who were the very definition of cool, calm, and kind from the delayed start to the very end at 1 am when not a single neighbor complained.

Thanks for making it easy on me :)

Our Jobs Over the Years

During lockdown, we had a chance to go through our old work diaries and have added all the addresses into one map just for the heck of it and to show prospective clients the extent of our experience.

HTC is happily amazed to see the amount of places/addresses/locations we have done tree work across this fine city over the years.

It seems we have High park pretty much entirely covered!.

We look forward to another 14 years and thousands of more properties in which to provide excellent tree care.

Thank you, Toronto!

HTC’s official COVID-19 Response Plan

During this challenging time for everybody, HTC has stopped non-essential Tree Care operations until April 15th. On this date, all our crew members would have been in self-quarantine for 21 days so unless there is an enforced lockdown on civilian movements we aim to restart our service at that time in earnest.

As the health and wellbeing of our clients, employees and the public at large are of the utmost, we have reviewed our policies & procedures and made adjustments to ensure that we are limiting personal contact and implementing best practices throughout this situation.

 We would like to emphasize our concern regarding the transmission of COVID-19 and explain what we are doing collectively as a team to prevent the spread;

• Our team is small and none of us have traveled outside Canada in the past three months.

• We perform our work outside and for no reason need to enter your home or business or have any direct contact with clients or neighbours.

• We have supplied each truck with hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes which are to be used constantly throughout the day. Gloves are to be worn all day.

• Clear guidelines have been given to all team members to practice safe social distancing and to not approach the client or neighbours. Everyone on the crew is in their vehicles and will have their lunch off-site.

Site visits, quotations and consulting

 • You have the option of a drop-by or in-person visit we will not knock on your door but will phone you from the outside upon arrival.

• Joseph or Luke will respect the 2m distance recommendations. We will not shake hands with you or exchange business cards or paper quotes.

• The quotes will be sent by email or articulated to you over the phone once the visitation is completed.

Completion of work

When the crew arrives they will call you instead of knocking at your door. If there are details to discuss they will ask you to join them outside.

The crew will maintain a 2m distance and will not shake hands with you.

Once the crew has completed the project they will call you to ensure you are happy.

Flexible Payment Plan

If the COVID-19 outbreak is having a financial impact on you and your family, we would be happy to discuss flexible payment options.

Due to the constantly changing global situation and the imperative to “flatten the curve”, we will continue to monitor the information provided by public health officials as it pertains to Ontario and make changes to our work schedule as required.

All the very best of health to you, yours and the rest of the World too.

Warmest regards
